Johannesburg: Members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) are set to launch a School Readiness Campaign beginning Wednesday, 15 January. The campaign, which involves visits to multiple schools across the province, will extend until mid-February. This initiative underscores GPL’s effort to ensure that schools are prepared to accommodate learners and deliver quality education at the start of the new academic year, as highlighted in a statement by the GPL.
According to South African Government News Agency, the oversight campaign will be led by prominent GPL figures including Speaker Morakane Mosupyoe, Deputy Speaker Nomvuyo Mhlakaza-Manamela, Chairperson of Committees Dalton Adams, Deputy Chairperson of Committees Thulani Kunene, and Chairperson of the Education Portfolio Committee, Moipone Mhlongo. Their visits will concentrate on evaluating infrastructure, safety, learning materials, and educator support. By interacting directly with school management teams, educators, and learners, the campaign seeks to identify challenges that need government intervention and foster accountability within the education system.
The School Readiness Campaign will take the Presiding Officers to various primary, secondary, and special schools throughout Gauteng’s five regions. These visits will include direct engagements with stakeholders to address obstacles to effective teaching and learning, as noted in the statement.
