Government Approves Foreign Operator’s Permit for Abakan Air

Pretoria: The Department of Transport has confirmed the approval and issuing of a Foreign Operator’s Permit (FOP) to Abakan Air for the transportation of general cargo, civilian helicopters, and acrobatic airplanes.

According to South African Government News Agency, the operator submitted an application for the FOP on 09 September 2025, and the permit was subsequently issued on 23 September 2025. The department emphasized that the South African government has not blacklisted the operator and is not aware of any information from other governments suggesting such a status.

The application process required Abakan Air to provide detailed information about the consignor and consignee of the cargo. This information was duly provided and confirmed in writing by the relevant company. Additionally, Abakan Air was required to contract a regulated cargo agent in South Africa, which was also confirmed.

Moreover, Abakan Air submitted all necessary details and paperwork for the crew, meeting the requirements set forth by the authorities. The flight plan was filed with the Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS), and further details can be obtained from ATNS regarding the plan.
