Grootfontein wins crucial points against Falcon


WINDHOEK: FNB Grootfontein earned important points in their victory against Reho Falcon on Saturday, keeping their chances of reaching the playoffs stage alive with one game remaining in the season.

During Round 15 of the Rugby Premier League, the northern side’s sole team travelled to Rehoboth and secured maximum points against Reho Falcon, who competed for the final playoff spot.

The Grootfontein rugby team defeated FNB Reho Falcon with a score of 40-34, extending their lead over the chasing team to seven points.

They scored five tries, with three of them successfully converted, and also scored three penalties, accumulating 40 points.

The tries were scored by Jahzeel Marais (one), Johannes Breedt (three), and Lodewikus Jacobs (one), while Uroes Marais contributed six times from the spot kicks, three conversions, and three penalties.

Grootfontein are now in fourth position with 44 points, nine points behind FNB Kudus, who hold the third position with 53 points.

is season found the going tough as they form part of the chasing pack, hold the fifth position with 37 points after defeating Simonis Storm Dolphins 40-10 at the Trustco United Sports field.

Reho Falcons, who lost against Grootfontein, are in sixth place with 35 points. FNB Rehoboth sit in seventh place with 29 points, and FNB Western Suburbs, who lost 41-15 against FNB UNAM, are in eighth position with 24 points.

UNAM leads the Rugby Premier League with 71 points, followed closely by FNB Wanderers with 68 points. In third place is coastal outfit FNB Kudus, with 53 points.
