Pretoria: The Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Mondli Gungubele, is set to inaugurate the African Digital Transformation Centre (ADTC) today. This new centre aims to serve as a national and regional hub to accelerate innovation, enhance digital skills development, and support entrepreneurship.
According to South African Government News Agency, the launch will take place this afternoon at the Innovation Hub in Pretoria. This initiative positions South Africa as a leading digital innovation hub in Africa, leveraging its robust technology ecosystem, strong infrastructure, advanced financial systems, and an active network of startups and innovators.
The ADTC is expected to facilitate partnerships among government entities, academic institutions, industry leaders, and development organizations. The centre's establishment aligns with the country's commitment to digital transformation, which is supported by key policy instruments such as the National Digital Economy Masterplan, the Draft National AI Policy Framework, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) initiatives. Furthermore, it aligns with the African Union Digital Transformation Strategy (2020-2030).
Situated at The Innovation Hub in Tshwane, the ADTC will be part of the International Telecommunication Union's Network of Acceleration Centres worldwide. This network operates under the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance for Digital Development, a global initiative aimed at bridging the digital innovation divide and promoting inclusive digital economies, as expressed by the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies.
