High speed chase ends in recovery of unlicensed firearm

Police members of the Maitland Flying Squad were busy with patrols on Friday (2022-06-03) when they received information pertaining a vehicle involved in a business robbery in Mowbray.

When the vehicle was spotted in Stikland, a high speed chase ensued.The members requested back-up whilst the chase proceeded onto the R300 highway, trying to bring the vehicle to a standstill. The police members came under fire from the suspects, upon which they returned fire, fatally wounding one suspect. When the vehicle came to a halt, they arrested three males, aged 37, on charges of business robbery, attempted murder, reckless and negligent driving, possession of stolen property and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Once charged the suspects are expected to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate court on the mentioned charges
