The Department of Home Affairs will host a consultative stakeholder engagement on the Green Paper on Marriages in South Africa, on Tuesday, 8 June 2021 with stakeholders who are based in the Western Cape, the Northern Cape and the Free State Province.
The engagement is scheduled to start at 13h00 and end at 16h00 (Virtual – MS Teams).
Stakeholders who are expected to participate include representatives of faith-based organizations, traditional leadership, youth formations and community leaders from the three provinces, namely, the Western Cape, the Northern Cape and the Free State.
The Director-General of the Department of Home Affairs will present the opening address which will set the scene for the interaction with participants on their views on the Green Paper on Marriages, which was published on 4 May 2021 to elicit public comment and submissions.
This is one of the engagements the department is hosting with stakeholders so as to consult on the policy proposals in the Green Paper. On 02 June 2021, a consultative workshop was held with stakeholders from Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces.
Upcoming engagements on the Green Paper will be held as follows:
• 08 June (13:00-16:00), with Western Cape, Northern Cape and Free State-based stakeholders
• 10 June (09:00-12:00), with Gauteng, Limpopo and North West-based stakeholders
