IFA Working to Establish Nonviolent and Violent Conflict Dataset


Addis Ababa: A validation workshop on establishing Nonviolent and Violent conflict dataset at the Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA) was held in Addis Ababa today.

The workshop organized by the institute and Ministry of Peace focused on establishing a comprehensive nonviolent and violent conflict dataset (NaVCoD) which includes all necessary units of observations and observable characteristics, according to IFA.

In his opening remarks, Institute of Foreign Affairs Executive Director Jafar Bedru emphasized the importance of establishing dataset as a key tool for understanding the nature, dynamics, actors, and consequences of conflicts in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa.

From the data set researchers, policy makers and policy analysts could easily access reliable data that are crucial for the research output.

According to him, IFA will allow other research institutions to access the dataset to facilitate collaboration and enhance research efforts globally.

By sharing and utilizing datasets from various sou
rces, researchers can address gaps, analyze trends, and conduct situational assessments related to nonviolent and violent conflicts.

Peace State Minister Cheru Geta, IFA scholars and other Ministry of Peace senior officials and experts participated in the validation workshop.
