Delmas: An initiative aimed at bringing essential services closer to communities is set to take place in Delmas, Mpumalanga. The Integrated Registration Outreach Programme (ICROP) will be rolled out on Friday, targeting underprivileged areas to ensure easier access to South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) services.
According to South African Government News Agency, this initiative is designed to reduce poverty by eliminating the need for long-distance travel to access SASSA services. The upcoming session at Simon Gondwe Botleng Sport Centre will be led by the Minister of Social Development, Sisisi Tolashe, alongside Mpumalanga MEC for social development, Nompumelelo Hlophe, and the Executive Mayor of Victor Khanye Local Municipality.
The programme is a collaborative effort involving the Department of Social Development, SASSA, and the National Development Agency (NDA). It aims to improve communication between the agency and beneficiaries by connecting directly with them on the ground.
SASSA identified Victor Khanye Local Municipality as a focal point due to social challenges affecting the community’s well-being. High unemployment and poverty have led to issues like substance abuse, crime, and teenage pregnancy, exacerbated by limited economic opportunities. Consequently, a significant portion of the population, approximately 18,482 individuals, relies on social grants for survival.
During the event, various services will be offered, including grant applications, reviews, and addressing inquiries. Approximately 14 government departments, NGOs, state entities, and financial institutions will participate, providing a range of services to the community.
