Intelligence Driven Operation Leads to Nyaope Drug Bust, Suspect Arrested


Bela Bela: A special operation called “Project Destroy Dealing In Drugs” was organized by members of Bela Bela, Provincial Narcotics team, Provincial Organized Crime, and Pienaarsrivier Detectives on Friday, 24 January 2025. The operation was conducted along the R101 road between Bela Bela and Pienaarsrivier.



According to South African Police Service, the operation was initiated based on intelligence gathered, leading to the stopping of a white NP200 bakkie with GP number plates in the Bela Bela policing precinct. Permission was granted to search the vehicle.



Inside the bakkie, authorities discovered and seized 20 balls of Nyaope, with each ball containing 100 sachets. A 29-year-old male suspect was arrested for possession of the suspected Nyaope drugs, which have a street value of R70,000. Additionally, the bakkie, valued at R100,000, was seized.



The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 January 2025.



“This successful operation demonstrates the ongoing efforts of the South African Police Service in Limpopo to combat and eradicate drugs-related crimes in the Province,” stated the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
