Pretoria: The Presidency and Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke Institute (CMMI) along with participating diplomatic missions are set to host the inaugural International Portraits of Power at the Amphitheatre, Union Buildings, Pretoria, on Tuesday. The event aims to spotlight the achievements and contributions of remarkable women through a curated exhibition.
According to South African Government News Agency, the International Portraits of Power is an initiative by the Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke Institute designed to celebrate women whose courage, leadership, and contributions have significantly influenced nations and inspired future generations. This will be accomplished through an exhibition featuring portraits of iconic women nominated by their respective countries. These portraits, created by South African artists, were developed in collaboration with participating diplomatic missions.
The exhibition is a part of the South African government's Women's Month programme, which focuses on honouring women's activism towards equality, preserving the history of women's liberation, and reinforcing cultural diplomacy as a component of the newly launched Milestones of Freedom campaign. It will bring together government officials, cultural practitioners, academics, and diplomatic missions from regions including Africa, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. Each featured woman's legacy will be depicted through a specially commissioned portrait.
