Komatipoort: The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) have launched a joint investigation into the deaths of two soldiers at the Macadamia Military Base in Mpumalanga.
According to South African Government News Agency, the SANDF confirmed Saturday’s incident near Komatipoort in a statement. The SANDF reported that a member, who had been approved for withdrawal from duty, attacked fellow soldiers in his accommodation. One soldier died during the incident, and the attacker later died from self-inflicted wounds after stabbing himself in the neck.
The SANDF stated that Military Health and Chaplain Services were dispatched to support the affected members. Both the SANDF and SAPS are conducting a joint investigation, and the names of the deceased are being withheld until their families have been informed. Further details will be shared as the investigation proceeds.
The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Angie Motshekga, along with the Chief of the SANDF, General Rudzani Maphwanya, have extended their condolences to the families of the deceased.
