Pretoria: Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, is set to meet with the leadership of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) and the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) following the recent appointment of Advocate Andy Mothibi as the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) at the NPA.
According to South African Government News Agency, this meeting aims to ensure a seamless transition and implement the President's decision to appoint Mothibi. The announcement of Mothibi's new role came this week, with his duties commencing in February, succeeding the current head, Advocate Shamila Batohi, upon her retirement.
The Justice Minister also expressed support for Leonard Lekgetho's appointment as the Acting Head of the SIU. The department's statement highlighted the President's confidence in both Mothibi and Lekgetho, wishing them success in fulfilling their constitutional and statutory duties, crucial for reinforcing the rule of law and enhancing the criminal justice system's efficacy.
