Following the conclusion of the Erongo Regional Second Division Football League, Karibib Football Club and Walvis Bay-based Blue Boys will compete for a promotional slot in the Southern Stream First Division.
According to recently updated league rankings, Karibib FC was crowned winner of the Inland Stream, while Blue Boys won the Coastal Stream. The two will face off on Saturday at the Walvis Bay Sports Ground to determine the league’s overall winner.
The Erongo League has 19 teams. The league is separated into two streams to accommodate all clubs better, placing them in order of closest vicinities.
Karibib FC had a better season in their stream, winning 12 of 16 games, losing only once, and drawing three times. They were declared champions last week after winning their stream with 39 points, 11 more than their nearest competitors, the Blue Jets. Java-java, United Stars, and Sailors FC were also demoted.
Blue Boys, on the other hand, faced an uphill battle on their way to the top after winning their strea
m in the final game by a better goal difference than their opponents, Namibian Navy, who finished second. Both teams finished the league with 38 points, but the Blue Boys had a 22-goal edge over the Navy’s 14.
That stream also witnessed the potential demotion of Gendev Academy, Walvis Bay Academy, Western Stars, and Mighty Eagles, who will have to fight back into the league via promotional play-offs.
The team that prevails in the Erongo League on Saturday will face Hardap Champions Friends FC, Keetmanshoop United from ||Karas, Khomas champions Swallows FC, and Tura Cosmos from the Omaheke Region on 24 August 2024, to determine the two teams who will join the Southern Stream First Division.
According to a statement issued by the Namibian Football Association on Tuesday outlining the governing methods to be followed during the play-offs competition, all promotional play-offs for all divisions will take place over the weekend of 24 August 2024.
The Northwest Stream berth will be contested by Kunene champions
Robber Chanties, Omusati champions Ongulumbashe Diamond Club, Foxy Seniors of Oshana, and Otjozondjupa title winners Kaltes Wasser.
Rundu Unam from Kavango East, Kulisuka Palace from Kavango West, Ohangwena Nampol from Ohangwena, Ondangwa United from Oshikoto, and Zambezi Shooting Stars will all compete for the Northeast ticket.
