NORTHERN CAPE – An off-duty policeman attached to the Kathu Crime Prevention unit went the extra mile today, 27 June 2020 when he placed himself on duty while being on leave to assist a member of Rhino Security to recover a Nissan bakkie that was reported stolen in Kathu last night.
Sergeant Ben Eiman and Andre Schoeman of Rhino Security in Kathu picked up the tracker signal today, 27 June 2020 at approximately 13:00, in the vicinity of Kuruman.
It is alleged that the Nissan bakkie was reported as stolen last night 26 June 2020 at 21:00, at the Kathu police station. The tracking device was activated which led the two members to Kuruman.
They tracked the signal to Magojaneng main road in Mothibistad where the vehicle was stopped and Sergeant Eiman apprehended and arrested the driver.
A 35-year-old man was arrested at 14:05 and charged with possession of suspected stolen vehicle. He will also be linked to the theft of motor vehicle case registered in Kathu last night.
The District Commissioner of the John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) Cluster, Major General Johan Bean commended Sgt Eiman for going the extra mile while on leave in order to apprehend the suspect and recover the stolen vehicle. He also thanked Rhino Security from Kathu for the partnership policing that was displayed in the execution of the arrest
