KlevaMova Initiative Offers Free Gautrain Travel to Eligible Residents This Weekend

Johannesburg: Eligible Gauteng residents are being encouraged to take advantage of the newly launched KlevaMova initiative, which provides a 50% discount on Gautrain train fares and offers free travel this weekend.

According to South African Government News Agency, the Gautrain has introduced this special product for individuals living in households with an annual income of R350,000 or less, students under 25, scholars, pensioners, and recipients of the SASSA disability grant. Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, announced that on 24 and 25 May 2025, pre-registered customers can travel for free on the Gautrain.

The initiative allows an eligible individual to bring up to three guests for the free travel offer. Interested individuals must register by 21 May 2025 at klevamovaweekend.gautrainalerts.co.za to secure their seats. Upon arrival at a Gautrain station during the specified dates, passengers will be welcomed by promoters who will verify registration and issue wristbands for the free travel day.

Promoters will also assist customers in signing up for the KlevaMova 50% train fare discount. Diale-Tlabela emphasized the dual benefit of this initiative, which provides free exploration of the Gautrain and an opportunity to reduce daily train travel costs within the province.

The KlevaMova product offers eligible passengers a 50% discount on train fares, available in weekly, monthly, and return trip formats. To qualify, individuals must apply with the necessary documentation and undergo an approval process.

The MEC encourages residents to register for KlevaMova to experience efficient, safe, and convenient public transport. For more information, residents can contact Gautrain's toll-free number, visit their website, or go to a Gautrain station (excluding OR Tambo).

The MEC concluded by highlighting the importance of affordable public transport as a fundamental service that enhances access to jobs and social activities, contributing to economic growth.
