Pretoria: Law enforcement authorities in Pretoria have taken decisive action against unroadworthy taxis, removing 264 of them from the roads during an operation in Soshanguve. The operation targeted vehicles deemed unroadworthy or suspected to be stolen, as well as drivers lacking a valid driving licence or public driving permit.
According to South African Government News Agency, this initiative is part of the Road Traffic Management Corporation’s (RTMC) commitment to enhancing road safety operations nationwide, especially during the festive season. The authorities issued fines under the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences for infractions such as cracked windscreens, expired vehicle licence discs, driving without a licence, and operating public transport without a professional driving permit.
Additionally, eighteen vehicles were impounded due to various defects, and one driver was arrested for possession of fraudulent documents. The RTMC emphasized its determination to uphold road safety an
d enforce strict compliance with traffic regulations.
