Limpopo: The Limpopo Provincial Government has expressed appreciation for the collective adherence to road safety regulations during the Easter weekend by both visitors and residents.
According to South African Government News Agency, the province acknowledged the efforts of those who visited Limpopo, residents who returned to their homes, and pilgrims attending church services, all of whom observed road safety measures. The Premier of Limpopo, Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, highlighted that the collaborative efforts resulted in fewer road fatalities, particularly on the heavily trafficked N1 highway.
Dr. Ramathuba extended gratitude to government officials, including Members of the Executive Council, Provincial Legislature, Mayors, and councillors, for incorporating road safety into their responsibilities. She also commended the police, traffic officers, emergency services, and support staff for their relentless enforcement of traffic laws, emphasizing their zero-tolerance stance on speeding and drunk driving.
The Premier acknowledged the public’s positive response to focusing on road safety, noting that road users took responsibility for their actions, reinforcing the idea that safety is a shared responsibility. Additionally, the province stressed the importance of pedestrian safety, urging individuals to avoid alcohol consumption and to wear visible clothing when on the roads.
Looking ahead, Dr. Ramathuba urged continued vigilance during upcoming travel periods, including the public holiday at the end of April, to maintain the emphasis on road safety.
