Lockdown II members apprehend an armed suspect in Nyanga

WESTERN CAPE – In their pursuit to rid the streets from firearms in the policing precinct of Nyanga, members of Operation Lockdown II arrested four men aged between 21 and 24 on Sunday, 29 January 2023. The members were doing their crime prevention duties when they received information about a suspicious vehicle at Sithathu Avenue, Zwelitsha, Nyanga.

They followed up on that information, spotted the car and after a search they found a firearm on one of the men. The other three men were later released due to insufficient evidence to link them to the crime. The suspect was detained at Nyanga police station and charged with the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

He will make his second appearance at the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on the 6th February 2023 for a formal bail hearing. The confiscated firearm will be sent to ballistics for analysis.
