Pretoria: The Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference, and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System, known as the Madlanga Commission, will pause its activities from Thursday, 3 September 2026 to 11 September 2026. The commission's last public hearing before the recess is scheduled for Wednesday, 2 September 2026.
According to South African Government News Agency, the Commission plans to submit its final report to President Cyril Ramaphosa on 16 November 2026. This submission date follows a deadline extension from the original end-of-August target. The recess is intended to allow two commissioners to honor prior commitments, which were initially planned for after the Commission's expected completion on 31 August 2026.
During the recess, the Commission's senior members and their extended team will continue preparations for resuming public hearings on Monday, 14 September 2026. This pause in proceedings comes after the commission was established to investigate claims made by KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi on 6 July 2025. These claims involve criminality, political interference, and corruption within the criminal justice system.
The Commission has already delivered two interim reports to President Ramaphosa, marking significant progress in its ongoing investigation.
