Cape town: The Madlanga Commission has announced a significant change in its leadership, with Advocate Terry Motau SC stepping down from his role as Chief Evidence Leader. Advocate Matthew Chaskalson SC has been appointed to fill the position, marking a new chapter for the commission as it continues its critical work.
According to South African Government News Agency, Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels confirmed that Motau departed the commission “on good terms.” Michaels emphasized the commission’s gratitude for the services rendered by Motau while underscoring the decision to refrain from discussing the matter further to avoid distractions from their ongoing mission.
Furthermore, the commission remains intensely focused on its objectives. Michaels reiterated the commission’s commitment to its mandate, which involves conducting a thorough inquiry and making “actionable recommendations” regarding serious allegations that criminal syndicates and drug cartels have infiltrated and unduly influenced South Africa’s law enforcement agencies. This work is deemed vital for upholding the rule of law in the country.
The spokesperson concluded by affirming the commission’s dedication to its mission, stating that they will continue to pursue their objectives vigorously in the interest of South Africa.
