Man slashes daughter’s neck with panga in Oshana

OSHAKATI: An Angolan man was arrested after he allegedly killed his fifteen-month-old baby girl by slashing her neck with a panga on Saturday.

Chief Inspector Thomas Aiyambo of the Oshana Namibian Police Force Community Policing Sub-division said the incident occurred around 23h00 at Ondulu Nomongwa village in the Oshana Region.

According to Aiyambo, the suspect was asleep with the mother of his child, when he woke up from his sleep saying lions and hyena were coming. The mother of the victim tried to calm him down with other people in the house and in the process he started fighting them.

‘He slapped one of them and proceeded to take a stick and started beating them, of which he hit the baby who was in the mother’s arms and she fell on the ground,’ Aiyambo said.

The baby’s mother then fled with the other two people in the house to a neighbour’s house.

‘When the neighbour came to rescue the baby they found the suspect holding the victim in his hands and with an open cut at the neck, and with a panga with
blood on it,’ Aiyambo said.

The deceased was identified as Maria Nuusiku Lukas.

The suspect was arrested and is detained at the Oshakati Police Station.
