Mashatile to Lead World AIDS Day Commemoration in Limpopo

Limpopo: Deputy President Paul Mashatile, in his capacity as Chairperson of the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC), is set to spearhead the official World AIDS Day commemoration at Masemola Stadium in Ga-Masemola, Sekhukhune District, Limpopo, on Monday, 1 December 2025.

According to South African Government News Agency, the annual event stands as a global act of solidarity with millions of individuals living with HIV. It aims to enhance awareness about the epidemic's current status and to foster initiatives related to HIV prevention, treatment, and care. The theme for the 2025 commemoration, 'Renewed Efforts and Sustainable Commitments to End AIDS', underscores the need to revitalise strategies that bridge gaps in prevention and treatment. It also highlights the significance of long-term investments, especially amidst funding cuts and shifting global priorities affecting HIV funding.

The Deputy President will be joined by several prominent figures, including Solly Nduku, Chairperson of the SANAC Civil Society, Nompumelelo Zikalala, Chairperson of the SANAC Private Sector, Minister of Health Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, and Premier of Limpopo Dr Phophi Ramathuba. Additionally, representatives from development partners such as United Nations agencies, research organisations, civil society movements, and the local community of Sekhukhune District and surrounding areas will also participate in the commemoration.
