May 31 Deadline Set for Employer’s Annual Declaration

Johannesburg: The deadline for the Employer’s Annual Declaration period has been set as 31 May 2025 by the South African Revenue Service (SARS). The revenue service has emphasized the significance of this process, which precedes the Personal Income Tax (PIT) Filing Season.

According to South African Government News Agency, SARS described the Employer Annual Declaration period as essential for collecting information that aids in issuing taxpayers accurate auto-assessed or pre-populated Income Tax Returns (ITR12). The monthly declaration in EMP201 and reconciliation in EMP501 are integral to this process. SARS highlighted the importance of providing complete and correct information, as it directly impacts employees’ ability to fulfill their tax obligations. Employers are urged to timely distribute IRP5 and IT3 certificates, which are necessary for employees to file their ITR12s during the tax season.

Additionally, SARS has introduced an enhanced e-filing version designed to improve the filing experience. The latest version offers improved capabilities for a smoother and more efficient reconciliation process. Employers, tax practitioners, and payroll administrators are encouraged to download the new e@syfile Employer v8.0 from the e@syFile download page on www.sars.gov.za before submitting their Employer Annual Declarations.

It is crucial for all employers, including those who are not economically active, to submit their Employers Annual Declaration. SARS has made it clear that it will hold all employers accountable for non-compliance with the Employers Annual Declaration submission.
