WINDHOEK: Vice president of the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), Luisa Damiao on Monday paid a visit to President Nangolo Mbumba to convey a message of condolences from her country, following the death of President Hage Geingob.
Geingob died at age 82 on 04 February 2024 at a hospital in Windhoek.
A statement issued by the Office of the President said Damiao conveyed heartfelt condolences from the Government and the people of Angola, as well as MPLA, to the Government and the people of Namibia.
‘The passing of President Geingob is not only a loss to Namibia and her people but also a loss to the people of Angola and Africa at large,’ she was quoted as saying.
On his part, President Mbumba expressed appreciation for the visit and condolence messages received since the passing of President Geingob, noting it is a clear testimony of brotherhood between the two countries.
The Angolan delegation also paid a courtesy visit to Monica Geingos, the wife of the late President Geingob.
Damiao
was accompanied by Ambassador Tete Antonio, the Angolan Minister of External Relations, and other dignitaries.
Geingob’s memorial service is scheduled for 24 February, to be followed by his burial on 25 February 2024.
