POTCHEFSTROOM – Pogisho Mqahiwa (26), was remanded in custody upon appearance in the Makwassie Magistrates’ Court yesterday, 18 March 2020 for business robbery.
Mnqahiwa’s court appearance emanates after an incident in which a tuck shop was allegedly robbed in Makwassie on Monday, 16 March 2020 at about 13:40. It is alleged that Mnqahiwa together with a 16-year-old minor entered the tuck shop and demanded cigarettes. It is further alleged that the suspects stabbed the tuck shop owner on the neck, then robbed him of his cellular phone and cash, then fled from the scene on foot. The tuck shop owner was later certified dead on the scene.
Within three hours after being alerted of the incident, police arrested the duo. Moreover, investigations indicated that the 16-year-old suspect is linked to another common robbery committed in Makwassie on Sunday, 15 March 2020.
Manqhiwa will reappear in the Makwassie Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 25 March 2020 while the minor is expected to appear in the Wolmaransstad Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 20 March 2020 after being processed in terms of the Child Justice Act, 2008 (Act No. 75 of 2008).
