Nedbank Namibia awarded bursaries totalling N.dollars 350 000 to 11 employees and three university students on Tuesday as part of the bank’s annual bursary programme.
Since the programme’s inception in 2019, 21 personnel have benefited from it, including in Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of Commerce (Law), Higher Certificates in Banking and IT, and Bachelor of Economics studies.
The student recipients are Mubiana Masiye, a third year NUST student studying towards a bachelor’s degree in computer science; Elifas Shivute, a second year student at NUST, studying towards a bachelor’s degree in computer science; and Rebekka Nambahu, a third year University of Namibia student, who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in financial mathematics.
Martha Murorua, Managing Director of Nedbank Namibia, stated that the Nedbank Bursary Programme is one of the bank’s employee learning and development initiatives.
The people development strategy at Nedbank Namibia aims to achieve several goals, including developing and growing new employees, retaining existing employees, ensuring that the right skills are in place, positioning the bank as a caring employer of choice, and ensuring that all employees develop to their full potential and meet their own career goals, she said.
“In order to survive in the current day, a corporation must regard its employees as assets to be invested in. We have made it our goal to reinvest in our people in order to attract and retain long-term, talented, and self-motivated employees with marketable skills for the modern workplace,” she said.
Further, the bank has sponsored two internal audit trainees through a three-year certification programme. They are currently in their senior year.
Inviting senior workers to engage in leadership development programmess at top foreign universities is another endeavour that creates a culture of continual learning at Nedbank, according to Murorua.
