Nelson Mandela’s Legacy Highlighted in Student Leadership Dialogue

Pretoria: Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Nonceba Mhlauli, emphasized the importance of Nelson Mandela's legacy in ensuring that every South African, regardless of their background, can live with dignity and hope. Speaking at the Nelson Mandela Day Student Leadership and Dialogue and Services event, Mhlauli urged attendees to remember Madiba for his belief in people and the transformative power of education.

According to South African Government News Agency, Mhlauli highlighted Mandela's contributions as a leader committed to humility, compassion, and service. Mhlauli reflected on Mandela's approach after 27 years in prison, where he opted for reconciliation over revenge, unity over division, and dialogue over conflict. She impressed upon students that true leadership is about serving others and improving lives, much like Mandela did.

The Deputy Minister also spoke about the role of higher learning institutions in shaping future leaders. She encouraged students to embrace opportunities to learn and grow, highlighting that many of South Africa's greatest leaders discovered their passion for justice during their student years. Mhlauli concluded by calling for leaders who are ethical, compassionate, and committed to serving others, qualities that are crucial for the nation's future.
