The Northern Cape Small Business Support Forum which took place in Kimberley is not to another talk shop, but it is specifically meant to map out an implementation plan on how best to assist township economies and devise a monitoring and evaluation strategy to determine the progress achieved when its review period comes. This was said by the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Nomalungelo Gina .
The Forum was jointly hosted by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) in partnership with the Northern Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT) as a means to arrest the continuous challenges encountered by small businesses regarding the accessing of funding, red tape and procurement problems.
Gina called for better coordination between all structures of government from the level of municipality up to the level of national government. She emphasised that this would ensure that all spheres would move in synergy in the delivery of services to communities.
The responsibility is upon ourselves to ensure that we serve as a one-stop-shop that will cater for all the challenges that our stakeholders encounter in their efforts to becoming sustainable businesses. I can assure all today here that the challenges that you are encountering as small and emerging businesses we will strive to reduce them to a very minute existence, she said.
She also called for the gearing up of local economic development agencies in provinces as they serve as a critical component to unlocking local economic development opportunities and difficulties.
