North West: North West Premier Lazarus Kagiso Mokgosi has appointed MEC for Finance, Kenetswe Mosenogi, as Acting Premier from 24 May to 8 June 2025.
According to South African Government News Agency, Mokgosi is currently on leave, and Mosenogi will assume all responsibilities associated with the role during this period, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.
According to Chapter 6, Section 131 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, an office-bearer may serve as Premier in cases where the current Premier is absent, unable to perform their duties, or when there is a vacancy in the office.
The office bearers who may take on this role include an MEC designated by the Premier, an MEC chosen by other members of the Council, or the Speaker until the legislature appoints one of its other members.
Meanwhile, an Acting Premier has the responsibilities, powers, and functions of the Premier.
