Okakarara Young Warriors and Blue Waters’ PstBet NFA Cup journeys came to an end on Sunday, following defeats to Further Fighters and Eeshoke Chula Chula respectively, on Sunday.
Okakarara Young Warriors, who joined the league last season from the Northwest Stream First Division where they demonstrated immense footballing aptitude, have not replicated that trend since joining the top-tier league this season, where they only managed seven wins, six draws, and 17 defeats to bow out of the NPFL.
On Sunday, the boys from the Otjozondjupa Region failed to show up to the party and demonstrate their premier league experience against the defiant Northeast Stream First Division relegation-threatened side, Further Fighters, a team known for such showpieces, after the game ended 2-0 in favour of the first league tier team at Omulunga Stadium in Grootfontein.
Elsewhere in Windhoek, a game between two premier league rivals, Eeshoke Chula Chula and Blue Waters, produced some outstanding football in a five-goal thriller,
but after the 90th-minute whistle, the boys from the north came out on top, defeating their new arch-rival 3-2 to advance to the round of 16.
This means that just two Premier League teams failed to advance to the round of 16 of the NFA Cup.
In other weekend results, Mighty Gunners defeated Eleven Arrows 2-0. At the same time, Life Fighters battled valiantly for their lives after a 1-0 victory over Air Masters.
Despite having a terrible season that resulted in their relegation from the top tier league, Orlando Pirates showed some excellent football acumen by defeating Sunrise FC 3-0, while NFA Cup defending champions Civics cruised over Swakopmund in a 5-0 thriller.
The greatest shock on Saturday came from the clever boys, UNAM FC, who humiliated LK United by a 13-goal score to cement their domination in the championship they won three years prior.
Oryza Sativa, based in Katima Mulilo, and Oshikoto champions Gerros Urikhob were tied 1-all after regulation time, but the boys from Zambezi won 4-0 in penalty
shootouts.
African Stars, Civics, Orlando Pirates, Life Fighters, Mighty Gunners, Further Fighters, Oryza Sativa, Eeshoke Chula Chula, FC Ongos, Khomas NamPol, UNAM, Young African, Young Brazilians, Julinho Sporting, Okahandja United, and Tigers are the 16 teams that will be drawn for the round of 16 on Monday.
