Onamulunga community gains skills in ceramics workshop


Onamulunga: A group of 23 community members from Onamulunga village in the Oshikoto Region are attending a ceramics workshop . The training , which began on Monday and ends Friday , focuses on converting traditional clay into ceramic products such as pots , cups , bowls and plates . The group of 20 women and three men are receiving training from 34 – year – old Jacobina Nangula , who said she wants to share her knowledge and skills with the community . ‘ I want to empower the youth to create their own jobs , earn an income , and gain skills and knowledge they can pass on to the future generations ,’ Nangula said . Olukonda Constituency councillor , Philemon Ndjambula spoke at a training session on Wednesday , where he praised the participants for their courage , commitment , and creativity . He said people should create something for themselves instead of relying on the government for everything . Nangula also highlighted that she has trained more than 200 people this year and would like to train more people
countrywide . One of the participants , Linda Amutenya said she is very lucky to be taught how to turn clay into beautiful items . ‘ We have been buying ceramic plates in local shops and we were so lucky to receive Nangula who is teaching us how to make our beautiful items and avoid buying them from local stores ,’ Amutenya said . She urged community members to put in effort in getting trained for economic and social projects that will lead to their development . ‘ I encourage young people to go through this training so that we can solve the issue of unemployment ,’ Amutenya said . Separately , 13 people from Onamweno village in the Olukonda Constituency are also learning how to make dishwashing liquid , while 56 people from Oniimbwele village turned up for perfume – making training on Wednesday at their respective villages . Erikson Shilomboleni of the Adult Education and Learning division in Oshikoto ‘ s Directorate of Education , Arts and Culture , stated that they are busy offering training to community m
embers in the region to improve their livelihoods . ‘ We want the community to sustain themselves by putting something on the table ,’ Shilomboleni said .
