Ondangwa United extend lead atop Oshikoto Second Division league


Ondangwa United extended their lead at the top of the Oshikoto Regional Second Division Football League standings to seven points after edging one of their closest title rivals, Mama Love with a 2-1 victory on Saturday.

The boys from Ondangwa are edging closer to clinching the title with just four games left before the season concludes, and require only two victories from their next four fixtures to be crowned champions.

Mama Love failed to stop Ondangwa United therefore dropped crucial points, losing their second spot to Gerrros Uri-Khob Football Academy who thrashed Newcastle United 3-0 in the Tsumeb derby on Saturday at the Oscar Norich stadium.

Benfica also recorded a vital victory, keeping them safe from relegation after beating Omandengu United 1-0 at Tsumeb. Young Rangers and Nine Eleven played out to a goalless draw, while Soweto Chiefs’ relegation worries mounted further following a 2-1 loss to Onathinge United. Young United fought tooth and nail to avoid the relegation zone after edging Safile Un
ited 3-0.

On Sunday, Newcastle United played out to a 1-1 draw against Nine Eleven, with Benfica thumbing Onathinge United 3-1, while Soweto Chiefs saw off Young Rangers 3-0 as they are tried to move out of the relegation zone. Young United and Omandengu United played out to a goalless draw in Sunday’s final encounter.

With some teams having played 18 games and others 17 games thus far, Ondangwa United leads the pack with 41 points, trailed by Gerros Uri-Khob Football Academy with 34 points. Mama Love sits in position three on 34 points, followed by Newcastle United in fourth with 33 points and Nine Eleven (5) on 28 points.
