One Luv Football Club of Mariental was declared the winners of the 11th edition of the Tses Spring Sports Festival’s football category on Sunday.
One Luv defeated 12 Brigade A 1-0 in the final match.
The sports festival commenced on Friday and concluded on Sunday in Tses, featuring 32 soccer teams, 10 netball teams and three volleyball teams.
Teams from the first, second, third and non-league divisions from the Erongo, Hardap, Khomas and ||Kharas regions participated.
One Luv received N.dollars 25 000 and a trophy, while 12 Brigade A of Keetmanshoop, as the runner-up, earned N.dollars 14 000. The defending champions, Dates Eleven of Naute Dam, and 12 Brigade B of Keetmanshoop received N.dollars 5 500 each as the losing semi-finalists.
In the netball category, 12 Brigade of Keetmanshoop were declared the winners, taking home N.dollars 5 000 and a trophy. Champion Arrows of Aussenkehr secured N.dollars 3 500 as the runner-up, and Raising Star, also from Aussenkehr, received N.dollars 1 500 as the third-best netball team.
The volleyball category saw 12 Brigade of Keetmanshoop declared this year’s winner, pocketing N.dollars 3 700 and a trophy. Keetmanshoop Volleyball Club received N.dollars 2 300 as the runner-up, and Hoachanas Volleyball Club walked away with N.dollars 1 000 as the best third team.
Thomas Tsuseb, the founder of the event, said on Monday, ‘Sport lovers came in numbers to support their teams. This year, the soccer teams were fewer; however, the event was a success in terms of participation and the discipline of participants and supporters. We would like to thank all those that sponsored us this year, and we look forward to next year.’
The tournament provides an opportunity for young people to showcase their talents and learn basic fundamental skills and sport culture, he explained.
