Operation Shanela II Nets Multiple Drug Arrests in ZFM District


Upington: The intensified operation Shanela II activities yielded good results in the ZFM District on Friday, 20 June 2025. A crime intelligence-driven operation conducted by Upington Border Police, assisted by the K9 Unit, led to the apprehension of four suspects for dealing in drugs.



According to South African Police Service, the police acted on information regarding drugs being delivered to a location in Paballelo. Following up on this intelligence, officers searched the premises, discovering dagga valued at R33,350.00. This led to the arrest of three suspects, aged 22, 28, and 38.



Additionally, a 31-year-old man was arrested after being found with mandrax tablets and methamphetamine worth an estimated R123,000.00. The police also confiscated cellphones and a scale believed to be used in the drug operations.



In an unrelated incident, police in Keimoes shut down an illegal liquor outlet, seizing alcohol valued at R15,000.00. An elderly man was charged with Contravention of the Northern Cape Liquor Act.



The actions of the police to combat drugs and related crimes were commended by the District Commissioner of ZFM, Major General Monica Sebili, who encouraged the community to continue reporting illicit activities. The police remain committed to reducing criminal activity in the ZFM District.
