Welkom: Operation Vala uMgodi Combat team received intelligence and planned a way-lay action in the vicinity of an identified target address in Free State. Police collected and analyzed information about a building used as storage for drugs in Keerom Street – Voorspoed Industrial Area near Welkom. Observation was patiently kept over the place, and on Friday 23 May 2025, at about 12:45 members noticed anticipated activities at the identified building.
According to South African Police Service, the team pounced on the identified target, and a thorough search was conducted. Two small scales used to weigh drugs, Chrystal Meth and 424 full Mandrax tablets were found and seized. The 57-year-old storage owner was immediately placed under arrest. A case docket for possession and dealing in drugs was opened at Welkom Police Station.
The total street sales value of the seized drugs is estimated at R88 500.00. The 57-year-old male will appear in Welkom Magistrate’s Court on Monday 26 May 2025.
