OSHAKATI: Standard Bank Namibia has handed over N.dollars 50 000 to the Oshakati Mayoral Development Fund.
The fund was established in 2022 to assist families, individuals and organisations within the jurisdiction of Oshakati as part of the council’s social responsibility.
Handing over the donation on Wednesday, Standard Bank Regional Manager: North West, Hendrik van Wyk said that their decision to support the Mayoral Development Fund is rooted in their core values of inclusivity and empowerment.
Van Wyk indicated that they believe that every Namibian, regardless of their social or economic standing, deserves the opportunity to thrive.
‘The fund is a testament to the dedication of the Office of the Mayor towards the people. This initiative is more than just a fund; it is a beacon of hope for those affected by unforeseen circumstances,’ he said.
He added that by contributing to this fund, the bank is not only offering immediate relief, but also investing in the long-term growth and prosperity of their com
munity.
Receiving the donation, Oshakati Mayor Leonard Hango said the funds came at the right time as they have cases that need assistance, such as fire incidents that occurred in the council vicinity.
According to Hango, they developed the mayoral fund to assist people in the town who come to their office seeking help.
‘The fund is our initiative after we realised the need to support the residents who find themselves in situations beyond their control,’ he said, such as incidences of fire which lead to the loss of property and belongings of residents.
Hango indicated that the Mayoral Development Fund focuses on areas such as humanitarian support, sport and recreation, health and education, arts and culture and environment and community.
