The Oshana Region has launched its Oral Health Week campaign to promote oral health and hygiene in the region.
The campaign, which started on Monday and runs until Friday, is aimed at educating residents about the significance of maintaining good oral hygiene practices.
In an interview with Nampa, Dr Johanna Pohamba of the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital said the campaign features various activities, including informative outreach programmes and free dental screening.
Pohamba explained that the initiative will raise awareness about the importance of dental care and encourage the community to prioritise their oral well-being.
‘Oral health is important because the mouth is linked to the rest of the body. Some diseases start in the mouth and can affect the rest of the body,’ she said.
She further said they have so far seen about 200 people, including inpatients and outpatients, at the Oshakati hospital and surrounding clinics, educated them about oral health and handing out toothbrushes and toothpaste.

amba further said the team will be at the Ondangwa Town Council on Thursday before concluding at Eluwa Special School and Omege School on Friday.
