Otjiwarongo: Residents of Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa Region on Wednesday gathered in the Ombili informal settlement to celebrate the official opening of the newly built Ombili clinic . Minister of Health and Social Services , Dr Kalumbi Shangula inaugurated the new clinic in the presence of community members , the regional political leadership , senior leaders of Otjikoto B2Gold Mine that sponsored the construction , and officials of the health ministry . Shangula said the Ombili clinic would serve the community as an immunisation centre , antenatal and postnatal care point , for general screening , as an HIV and tuberculosis service centre , for dental problems , family planning , management of communicable and non – communicable diseases as well as a point for general treatment of diseases . ‘ This clinic not only alleviates the burden of walking long distances to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital or Orwetoveni clinic for community members , it will also enhance the quality of healthcare for nearly 20 000
inhabitants of Ombili and its nearby informal areas ,’ he said . Otjikoto B2Gold Mine Namibia Country Director , John Roos on his part said B2Gold Mine sponsored the construction of the Ombili clinic at N . dollars 6 million through its corporate social investment programme . He said the project was perfectly executed and completed on time as the ground – breaking ceremony for the construction activities was conducted in April 2024 . Ombili clinic had been a health post since 2007 . Otjiwarongo Constituency councillor Marlayn Mbakera extended thanks to the Otjikoto B2Gold Mine management for the funding , saying the clinic will benefit residents in the fast – growing Ombili informal settlement . Otjiwarongo Mayor Gottlieb Shivute and other local authority councillors also attended .
