The newly constructed Otjozondjupa Regional Council office park was on Thursday officially inaugurated at Otjiwarongo.
Minister of Urban and Rural Development Erastus Uutoni, who inaugurated the double storey office building, said Government through his ministry funded the construction at the cost of nearly N.dollars 163 million.
The construction was executed in two phases from 2014 to 2023, he said.
‘Now the new building is here for you the officials, and the political leadership of the region. We want to see quality service delivery and powerful decisions being passed inside this luxury building. Don’t serve people based on how they look or their skin colour, instead, serve everyone equally and without favour,’ he said.
Uutoni explained that Government is committed to bringing infrastructure development to the Otjozondjupa Region, as well as bringing services closer to its inhabitants, hence its support of the new regional council building’s construction.
The minister further used the same platform to
launch the customer service charter of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council.
He urged the staff members of the regional council to read it, understand it and serve the community here with efficiency, effectiveness and dedication.
Chairperson of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council, Marlayn Mbakera on her part said the new building has nearly 100 offices, council chambers, conference halls, a kitchen fitted with modern equipment and a cafeteria.
The new building is expected to also provide office space to other government ministries decentralised to the regional council like the directorate of education, veterinary services, health, the regional governor’s office and Otjiwarongo constituency officials, said Mbakera.
The constituency councillors of Tsumkwe, Grootfontein, Otavi, Okakarara, Okahandja and Omatako were also present at the inauguration.
