Over N.dollars 500 000 raised ahead of NFCD in Mariental


A total of N . dollars 530 000 was raised during a fundraising gala dinner held at Walvis Bay over the weekend , ahead of the 12th National Fish Consumption Day ( NFCD ). Since its inception in 2012 , the event organised by the Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust ( NFCPT ) has been held in 11 regions , with the Hardap Region making the 12th edition . The NFCD which will be taking place on 21 September 2024 in Mariental in the Hardap Region , is an annual celebration of the fisheries sector , and acts as an avenue to promote fish consumption and education in the host region . The event also aims to raise funds for educational development in the host region including through procuring essentials for schools . This year ‘ s event will be held under the theme ‘ Nourishing Communities , Sustaining Futures ‘. In his speech , Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister Derek Klazen commended stakeholders ‘ efforts and steadfast commitment to addressing the educational needs of communities and the entire country at
large . ‘ This event offers a unique opportunity to forge lasting connections and advance educational development in the Hardap Region . We look forward to strengthening stakeholder relationships and support the well – being of Namibian schoolchildren ,’ he expressed . Klazen highlighted that given the current economic challenges , hosting the fundraising gala event in Walvis Bay allowed for broader participation and generous pledges from stakeholders and guests . Over the past decade , through the fundraising gala dinner , NFCPT and its stakeholders have raised over N . dollars 5 . 1 million , which has been invested in various school necessities across Namibia . Hardap Governor Salomon April in his acceptance speech expressed gratitude to the stakeholders for the pledges , emphasising that the funds will be used to procure essential school supplies identified by the region ‘ s education directorate and will be channelled through the regional council under the decentralisation policy . ‘ What happened here t
onight is solidarity in action , people united for a good common cause which is education for the young one . To the education directorate : I would like you to , every time you use the money , to remember that it was given generously so that it can impact education and only education as well as create a better learning environment for the little ones in Hardap schools ,’ April urged . The event will be held in the Kavango East Region next year .
