A 69-year-old man at Okahandja died on Friday morning after he was allegedly attacked by his girlfriend on Wednesday at their house in Five Rand informal area at the town.
Namibian Police Force head of community affairs in the Otjozondjupa Region, Senior Inspector Maureen Mbeha in a media statement on Friday said the deceased was identified by his close relatives as Michael Paulus.
It is alleged that Paulus and his 54-year-old partner whom he lived with for nearly 20 years, were involved in a heated quarrel on Wednesday at their house in Five Rand.
‘During this alleged quarrel, the suspect allegedly assaulted Paulus with an iron bar all over his body, and on Friday morning at 06h00, Paulus was found died in his sleeping bed,’ said Mbeha.
The Okahandja Police Station was then informed of the incident, which led to the arrest of the suspect on a charge of murder, she said.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Mbeha added that an autopsy would be performed on Pau
lus in order to establish the actual cause of his death.
Police investigations in the matter continue.
