Pensioner Arrested for Alleged Murder of Wife in Senekal


Senekal: Police in Senekal have arrested a 74-year-old man from Senekal following the alleged murder of his 58-year-old wife. It was initially reported that the woman shot herself in the bedroom on 27 March 2025 and a revolver pistol was found next to her body.



According to South African Police Service, it’s alleged that the partners were sitting together when the woman suddenly left to their bedroom. A few minutes later, a gunshot was heard from the bedroom and she was found dead with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The firearm lawfully belonged to the deceased. On police arrival, tests were conducted on both partners for further ballistic tests analysis and the firearm was seized. An inquest case was opened for further investigations.



On 27 March 2025 at about 14:00, the post-mortem was conducted at the State mortuary in Bethlehem, where it was discovered that the deceased was shot at the back of her head. Therefore, an inquest case was changed to murder.



The 74-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged with murder. He is expected to appear before the Senekal Magistrate court on Monday, 31 March 2025, facing a charge of murder.
