Police Commissioner Masemola Appears at Madlanga Commission

Pretoria: The South African Police Service’s National Police Commissioner, Fani Masemola, is today presenting evidence at the Madlanga Commission. Officially known as the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System, the Commission’s hearings got underway last week. Masemola’s testimony follows the evidence presented by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, over the first three days of last week’s hearings.

According to South African Government News Agency, the public has the opportunity to follow the hearing via livestream on the Commission’s website, as well as through radio, television, news, and social media platforms. The spokesperson for the Commission, Jeremy Michaels, emphasized the need for attendees to bring valid identification and noted that weapons are prohibited on the Commission’s premises at the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College in Pretoria. The Commission’s website is www.criminaljusticecommission.org.za.

Meanwhile, in Parliament, the Ad Hoc Committee investigating allegations made by Mkhwanazi has invited public and organizational written submissions relevant to the inquiry’s scope. The committee highlighted the constitutional obligation to involve the public in its processes, ensuring that interested parties are informed and have a say. Submissions must relate to the inquiry’s scope and be provided under oath or affirmation, with assistance available for those needing help in preparing statements. These submissions can be sent to [email protected], and any inquiries can be directed to Mr. V Ramaano, Adv P Gwebu, or Ms. B Mbengo at the provided contact numbers.
