Johannesburg: The South African Police Service (SAPS), through the dedicated efforts of the Mopani and Capricorn Vala Umgodi Task Teams, has conducted a series of successful operations aimed at curbing illegal sand mining and immigration violations within Limpopo Province.
According to South African Police Service, in Mopani District, a coordinated operation on 27 June 2025 resulted in the arrest of two suspects, aged 30 and 35, at Mavele Village. Police responded to the scene at approximately 12:30 and discovered a tractor actively engaged in sand loading activities. A tractor and four shovels were confiscated as evidence.
Simultaneously, in Sekhukhune District, during a routine patrol along the R555 Steelpoort Road at approximately 09:40, the Vala Umgodi Task Team observed a white TATA dropside truck with four male individuals loading sand. Upon approach and subsequent questioning, three Mozambican nationals aged 38, 30, and 26 were arrested on the spot for contravention of the Immigration Act as illegal immigrants.
The South African Police Service reiterates its unwavering commitment to addressing illegal activities such as unauthorized sand mining and immigration violations, which threaten community safety, security, and sustainable development. Investigations are ongoing, and the accused are scheduled to appear in court in due course.
