Police deployment foils robbery following arrest of eight suspects at Imbali

DURBAN – Additional police officers deployed to the Plessisslaer police precinct to bolster crime fighting efforts, continue to make a dent in the crime picture. On 2 February 2022 at 20:00, police officers that are deployed in the area were conducting operations when they stopped a taxi which had no registration plates at Unit 1 in Imbali.

The eight men who were in the taxi were searched by the police officers. Three pistols with 25 rounds of ammunition were seized following the search. The eight suspects who are aged between 20 and 40, were placed under arrest for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition as well as conspiracy to commit robbery. Police investigations revealed that the suspects were on route to commit a robbery. The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing. The suspects are appearing in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court today.
