Grootvlei: Police leadership, under the guidance of Acting Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, is set to visit the family of Sergeant Tshepo Mokoena, a police officer from Grootvlei Police Station, who was tragically killed. This visit is part of a scheduled event where members of the media have been invited to participate.
According to South African Police Service, the visit to Sergeant Mokoena's family is scheduled for 21 September 2025, at Grootvlei Police Station, Springfield Lane Thabakgwali, Mpumalanga. The event is set to commence at 09:30 for 10:00. This visit highlights the efforts of the police leadership to connect with and support the families of officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
In addition to paying respects to the fallen officer's family, the police leadership, accompanied by MEC for the Department for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, will also be visiting a drug laboratory in Volkrust. This meth lab was successfully shut down on 19 September 2025. The visit to the site of the meth lab is scheduled for later the same day at 13:00, located at Oudehoutkloof Farm, Volkrust, Mpumalanga.
These visits underscore the ongoing commitment of the Mpumalanga police leadership to tackle drug-related crime and to provide support and solidarity to the families of officers who serve their communities diligently.
