Police members recovered two firearms with ammunition

The commitment of police officers led to the arrest of two suspects on Friday (2021-10-15) when they were found in possession of firearms and ammunition for which they did not possess a valid licence.

Woodstock police were busy with crime prevention duties doing stop and searched operation in the hotspot areas. As they approached an unknown man, he dropped an object in a nearby dustbin and fled the scene with police members in pursuit. Upon inspection the police members found a firearm with ammunition. The 38-year-old man, was arrested and detained.

In an unrelated matter Wynberg Police members followed up on information about a wanted suspect for assault with the intention to cause grievously bodily harm (GBH). Upon arrival they spotted a vehicle parked close to the address. The members approached the vehicle and searched the occupants. One male was found in possession of pistol and ammunition. The 38-year-old man was arrested and detained as he could not provide a valid licence to be in possession of the mentioned firearm.

Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Cape Town and Wynberg Magistrate court respectively on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
