Police Seize Drugs Worth Over R9.7 Million in Gqeberha During Operation

Gqeberha:The South African Police Service (SAPS) has successfully seized drugs with an estimated street value exceeding R9.7 million in Gqeberha. The operation also resulted in the arrest of a 38-year-old suspect during an intelligence-driven intervention.

According to South African Government News Agency, the suspect, who was apprehended on Saturday, is scheduled to appear before the Gqeberha Magistrates' Court on Monday to face charges related to drug offenses as investigations continue.

The operation, a part of the SAPS National Organised Crime Intervention, aims to disrupt drug trafficking and dismantle organised criminal networks. This effort was executed under Operation Ukubuza, where a search warrant was carried out at a designated address in Rowallan Park, Gqeberha, based on intelligence-led information.

During the operation, authorities discovered the suspect inside a vehicle parked in the garage at the location. A search of the vehicle uncovered various drugs suspected to include mandrax, cocaine, and tik, leading to the suspect's arrest. Additionally, police found drug-packaging materials and cash believed to be proceeds from criminal activities. The substances are set to undergo forensic analysis to determine their precise composition.

The SAPS has reiterated its dedication to intensifying efforts to dismantle organised crime networks and disrupt illegal drug trades that pose threats to community safety and well-being.
