Police Summit to Elevate Crime Fighting Efforts

Ekurhuleni: President Cyril Ramaphosa will address the opening of the Police Summit on Tuesday in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng. The inaugural Police Summit is themed ‘Efficiency in Action: Optimising South Africa’s Policing Potential’, aligning with Chapter 12 of the National Development Plan (NDP) on Building Safer Communities.

According to South African Government News Agency, the summit aims to tackle the high levels of crime in South Africa by assessing current policing methods and developing more effective strategies for the South African Police Service (SAPS). The three-day event will focus on enhancing SAPS’s efficiency and effectiveness in crime-fighting efforts to meet the 2030 NDP objectives.

The summit will explore four broad themes through related breakaway discussions. These discussions will focus on proven policing strategies that have successfully reduced crime and enhanced community safety, the need to adapt to dynamic changes in modern policing, the transformative role of technology in policing, and building a skilled and professional workforce.

Experts and practitioners will attend the Police Summit, sharing critical views and ideas while building networks to advance social justice. The event will facilitate engagement with various stakeholders, allowing participants to learn from best practices and participate in discussions on innovative solutions.
