Johannesburg: The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) Group CEO, Hishaam Emeran, along with members of PRASA management, has met with labor representatives as part of the ongoing wage negotiation process.
According to South African Government News Agency, PRASA was given 60 days to present a ‘just and fair’ wage offer to its workforce by the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) after unions at the agency filed a dispute.
“This meeting marks the beginning of critical engagements with our labor partners following the 60-day extension granted by the CCMA. It demonstrates our commitment to constructive dialogue and to addressing concerns raised by labor in a manner that balances the needs of our employees with the long-term sustainability of the organization,” PRASA stated on Wednesday.
The agency emphasized that management was committed to engaging all official unions to reach an inclusive agreement and to find a sustainable way forward that supports employees while ensuring the continued sustainability of the business.
PRASA also noted progress in restoring commuter rail services, with 35 of the 40 corridors successfully recovered. “Efforts are continuing to optimize operations and reach full-service capacity,” PRASA mentioned. – SAnews.gov.za
